Black Lesbians United is launching our senior health and wellness program for lesbians 60 and older to address the unique needs, experiences, and challenges that we face as aging black lesbians. We desire to provide safe and inclusive spaces for us to receive support, connect with each other, and engage in activities that promote our physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
BLU in conjunction with UC Berkely’s School of Social Welfare and the California Black Women’s Health Project’s (CABWHP) Sisters Aging with Grace and Elegance (S.A.G.E.) have joined forces to create a focus group to address the unique needs of older black lesbians as part of the larger LGBTQ aging needs assessment that is part of the State of California’s Master Plan on Aging. We are thrilled to be able to participate in the conversation regarding our long-term care needs.
We will also from time to time share any resources that may be of interest to you. We also invite you to share with us any resources that we could all use or benefit from as well.
As we all know, BLU is an LA based organization. When we have events, we typically have them in LA proper. Given the broad landscape of our community, it makes it difficult to travel to LA if you live in the San Fernando, San Gabriel or Moreno Valleys, for example.
To get to know our fellow lesbians in the surrounding areas, BLU will be hosting a social mixer for black lesbians that reside in the Inland Empire on Saturday, September 21, 2024, in Rialto, CA from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm. If you live in the IE or surrounding area, we would love to have you join us. Please RSVP at https://blunited.org/blu-ie-mixer
